A spare bedroom converted into a dedicated prayer room in Tigoni. The focal wall is clad in warm-toned vertical timber battens with a backlit cross recessed into the centre. The opposite wall carries a dark brown damask-patterned wallpaper. Linear LED strips run along the underside of the timber ceiling battens, and a grey-green storage cabinet unit with gold hardware occupies the corner by the entrance. Two upholstered armchairs sit on a kilim rug over a timber parquet floor, flanked by arc floor lamps.

The Brief

Convert a spare bedroom into a quiet, dedicated prayer and reflection space that uses warm materials and flexible lighting to create a contemplative atmosphere.

Our Approach

Timber battens were run continuously across the feature wall and ceiling, with the cross shape achieved by recessing a backlit panel into the batten grid rather than adding a separate element. The warm amber of the timber is set against the dark damask wallpaper on the opposite wall, creating contrast without introducing a third colour. The lighting was designed with multiple configurations — the backlit cross, the linear ceiling strips and the arc floor lamps can each be used independently or in combination. Heavy floor-length drapery on the window wall allows the room to be fully darkened.
