Green Bathroom
Hurlingham, Nairobi · 2022
A compact bathroom in Hurlingham where three distinct surface treatments occupy different zones of the same small room without competing. The walk-in shower is clad in a two-tone geometric herringbone tile — dark green and white in a bold diagonal zigzag pattern. The lower walls are painted in the same dark green as the shower tile, with a botanical wallpaper depicting animals, birds and plants covering the upper half of every wall. A white pedestal basin with brass cross-head tap and a round copper-framed mirror complete the vanity.
The Brief
Design a compact bathroom in Hurlingham that feels considered rather than small — using a bold shower tile, a botanical wallpaper and painted lower walls to give each surface a clear identity within a limited footprint.
Our Approach
The dark green runs consistently from the lower wall paint to the shower tile, which grounds the room. The botanical wallpaper on the upper walls introduces movement and organic detail without adding more colour to the palette. The shower's geometric herringbone tile is the room's strongest feature — its diagonal zigzag pattern is deliberately bold rather than restrained, giving the small enclosure a sense of deliberate character. The round copper mirror and amber wall sconce bring warmth against the dark green lower walls.
