A Westlands home interior where each room holds a different but coherent character — floral block-print wallpaper in the bedrooms, dark walnut joinery in the master suite, a coffered plaster ceiling in the living room. The scheme draws from mid-century and vintage sources without replicating any one period: cane headboards and rattan panel inserts sit alongside brass chandelier fittings and applied plaster mouldings. What holds it together is a consistent commitment to quality of material and the confidence to mix registers across the same floor.
The Brief
Design an interior for a private Westlands home that mixes contemporary and vintage sensibilities across all rooms — with dark timber joinery, patterned wallpapers, cane detailing and a mix of brass and soft lighting used throughout.
Our Approach
Dark walnut is the primary joinery material in the principal bedroom and dining zone. Cane panels appear on headboards and furniture throughout, providing a natural texture that recurs without becoming repetitive. In the living room, the coffered plaster ceiling and antique brass chandelier set the tone; grey linen sofas and a dark timber media unit with rattan inserts complete the room. Each bedroom is given its own wallpaper identity: floral block-print in one, panel moulding and plaster paint in another, applied wall moulding in the third. The study corner has a full-height open dark timber bookcase against a plastered wall.
