A private entertainment suite in Kilimani designed without restraint. The palette is entirely red and black — red walls, red ceiling, red small-square mosaic tile in the shower, black marble floor, dark classical columns throughout. Gold chandeliers, baroque-framed mirrors and ornate French joinery provide the counterpoint. The bedroom has a painted chinoiserie landscape mural behind the bed and a grid-pattern mirror ceiling with red LED cove lighting. The en-suite has a round step-in Jacuzzi tub on a raised black marble platform, enclosed in red mosaic and black drapes.
The Brief
Design a private entertainment suite in Kilimani — bedroom, sitting area and en-suite — using an all-red and black palette with gold baroque detailing, dramatic lighting and theatrical spatial sequences.
Our Approach
Every surface in the suite carries a material decision: red mosaic tile in the wet areas, red gloss paint on walls and ceiling, black marble tile on the floors, dark classical columns throughout. The gold baroque ornament — chandeliers, mirror frames, wall sconces — was chosen to contrast with the dark base palette rather than warm it. The mirror-grid ceiling in the bedroom reflects all the light sources in the room and makes the ceiling disappear. The Jacuzzi alcove uses the black drape as an enclosing element, so it can be separated from the rest of the bathroom or opened to it.
