Home Dance Room Studio
Karen, Nairobi · 2024
A Karen home dance studio converted from an existing room, fitted with a full-height mirror wall and a barre rail, a diamond-pattern warm parquet floor and a dance pole at the centre. The walls are painted dark grey throughout; the ceiling combines a white tray plaster section with recessed dark timber coffered panels, multiple ceiling fans and adjustable track spotlights. A brown Chesterfield sofa and a white open wardrobe unit occupy the lounge zone beside the mirror.
The Brief
Convert an existing room in Karen into a private home dance studio with a full-height mirror wall, a barre rail, a dance pole, a warm timber floor and a lounge zone — finished in dark grey walls with a timber coffered ceiling and studio spotlights.
Our Approach
The full-height mirror is fitted on a single wall and runs its full width, with the barre rail positioned in front of it at the correct working height. The diamond parquet floor was chosen for its warmth and for the way its pattern reads clearly in the mirror — making the studio feel larger. The ceiling combines a white tray plaster zone for the main body of the room with recessed dark timber coffered sections above the lounge area, so the two functions of the room read differently above as well as below. The Chesterfield sofa and open wardrobe unit are kept against the wall so the entire floor area remains clear for practice.
